Collin is from Schenectady, NY, and graduated from the University at Albany, where he majored in Political Science focusing in Public Law. He worked with the New York Public Interest Research Group on campus, organizing students around environmental concerns. Collin later lobbied for NYPIRG as a Legislative Associate, specifically on recycling legislation, and some energy issues.
He also worked with NYPIRG's canvass outreach program, focusing on alternative energy planning, and Global Climate Change. Collin came down to New Orleans in late June of 2008 to help with the Gulf Restoration Network's first canvass, and now I am GRN's Campus Organizer, through the AmeriCorps Vista program, working with the Tulane Center for Public Service. His job is to promote GRN's campaigns to the Gulf community at large, working closely with student interns and volunteers throughout the Gulf region. The goal of these partnerships is to raise student awareness regarding the environmental problems facing the Gulf Coast, as many students are from other areas of the country, and build a wide range of support to increase the visibility of these concerns. As the students participate in community outreach, they learn valuable skills, and become more aware themselves of the importance of the Gulf region to their lives back home.
